As a boy, I started taking pictures with an old Russian made Zenith. Mostly I was interested in people, I watched them and analyzed their behavior, but I could never tell the whole story with a single photograph. When camcorders were huge and expensive, my uncle had an opportunity to borrow one VHS camera from work and during that time I had a chance to come up with different ideas how to persuade him to let an eleven year old boy use this expensive piece of equipment.  So every time I succeeded, I would try to capture the moving world through the lens.

When I was fourteen I went to track and field practice, and when the coach realized that I had  potential I stopped pursuing a filmmaker’s career and followed my father steps; I became a triple jumper. Years later, when I was jumping for a university in the US, I realized that wasn’t going to be a world record holder and this wouldn’t last forever, so I went back to my first love. Since 2002 I’ve been studying multi media and working in the industry. Years have passed but I still watch and analyze people. I listen to stories, watch how people live, and try to tell the stories that impact me the most. Now we live in the era of technology. Almost everyone possesses some form of a video capturing device, every computer comes with some editing software, but at the end it’s all about the story and the light. Without those two, even when shooting with the world’s best cameras, there is no movie.

Through “Song In a Different Way” we want to show the Philippines with its beauty and its struggles, bring people closer to the life on the second largest archipelago in the world. As the 3D technology becomes more accessible and more friendly to viewers, we are considering shooting the documentary in 3D.
