I always believed that when you’re on a budget, it’s better to get something better than be disappointed when you get the cheaper part. At the end its all about what are you going to do with it. If it’s for a home video, the cheaper version might be fine. When you’re in the tropics like me at the moment, shooting documentary and other projects, and have no option of exchanging or upgrading, it’s always better to go with the right gear. Letus Mini is the cheapest of the Letus line of 35mm adapters, and I wish I could have the Ultimate or Arriflex D21 but at the end of the day it about the story, if you sending your message across. If you have the story and the light, you can shoot it with a cellphone camera.
So..you can’t go wrong with Letus, I haven’t tried other adapters, but with the research I’ve done this was the only reasonable choice for my purpose. Just remember that the adapter is only an adapter, you need to have bright lenses. Smaller the iris opening, you get bigger vignette.
It’s good to look at youtube or vimeo test shoot videos to see what you can get from different adapters and lenses.
Goof Luck.
I ended up deciding that a 35mm adapter is on the waste side of things when the new Canon rebel T2i is capable of so much more, with its own problems… but the dual functionality of video and DSLR will prove to be much more worth it in the end.
